Now Eastlit is getting increasing numbers of submissions. Many of these coming in, increasingly have no or little connection to the region. However, it seems a shame to reject literature and art that is of quality just because it is not connected to East Asia or South East Asia. A lot of this unconnected material comes from either South Asia or traditional English speaking literature cultures.
What I intend to do is to start two more journals. One of these will be dedicated purely to English literature and art from South Asia/ the Indian Subcontinent. The other will be dedicated to literature and artwork from English speaking western countries. These journals will be online as with Eastlit. They will also share the same ethos and editorial processes. However, at least initially they will be quarterly publications. This may change if:
- The amount of work being submitted justifies the journal being published more often.
- There is the level of administrative and volunteer support to enable more frequent publication.
- The readership exists to justify increased publication.
These publications will also be marketed and announced through social media as with Eastlit. They will exist as sister publications of Eastlit journal.
Right now there is no time frame for the initial launch. When we are ready it will be formally announced with a realistic time frame set for the first issue of each journal. Names will also be announced at a later date.
If there is anyone who would like to help out on these projects either in administration, marketing or in performing an editiorial board role, please let me know. Any comments or advice are also appreciated.
